Burgundy Velour Sweatshirt: Retro Collegiate is Back in Trend

Happy Chinese New Year! I’ve been wishing everyone prosperity and mostly importantly, health, over the last couple of days.

While peaches symbolise longevity in Chinese culture, peach blossoms on the other hand are associated with prosperity and romance — which is why most public areas and atriums will be decked out in huge pots teeming with pink blooms. This year, florists at Chinese New Year fairs seem to be veering towards smaller trees for the everyday household. I’ve always wanted to put up a small tree at home and was so happy that we managed to snag a beautifully straight one! The branches have been tied together so it’ll gradually fluff out over the next couple of days.

Another tradition for Chinese New Year is to do spring cleaning three days beforehand (年廿八洗邋遢). And my, oh my, I rediscovered a number of pieces that I had completely forgotten about but wasn’t quite ready to let go of yet. A few seasons ago I was all things velvet/ velveteen/ velour and I loved how the contrast tipping brings back varsity vibes. It’s not something I would wear on a daily basis, but hey that’s the whole spirit of the holiday season right?
