Year of the Snake: Scaling New Heights with Red Nails
Thereβs no better time than Chinese New Year to rock a statement manicure in red.
Weβve done a few of these by now, so every year, I try to add a dash of creativity and create something that holds special meaning for that particular year.
2025 is the Year of the Snake, an animal symbolising wisdom, grace, and transformation. While Iβm not the biggest fan of this spirit animal, I chose a design that honours its qualities in a bold mix of reds and gold reminiscent of the opulence of this festive time.
In Chinese culture, red is the most auspicious colour, while gold symbolises wealth and success. There are many shades of red, but the Chineseβs favourite shade almost leans towards vermillion, which I opted for in a gradient that runs from bright to deep red, complemented by the negative space and a transition into a soft, shimmering gold. To mirror the elegance of the snake, I added subtle metallic patterns on the accent nailsβthink delicate swirls or a serpent-like design that captures the creatureβs essence while remaining chic and sophisticated. Itβs louder than Iβm used to, but a little sparkle never hurts, especially during the festivities.
These nails are perfect for any New Year visit, and a bespoke manicure can only help to turn heads and reel in more red packets. Pairing it with something equally vibrant, like a traditional Chinese outfit, would easily elevate your look.
Wishing you all a prosperous and joyful Year of the Snake! May you and your loved ones be blessed with good fortune and health as you welcome the new year with open arms.
