Wine Red Dad Blazer: Dropping by Your Relatives’ in Style
After a few days of brilliant sunshine, Hong Kong has turned gloomy again and I thought it prime time to try out the new dad blazer I had gotten in anticipation of Chinese New Year.
My love for blazers run deep – even though I shied away from shoulder pads for the longest time because my head is on the small end and I always found myself swimming in the excess material. After a fair bit of trial and error, I found that straight-cut dad blazers complement my wardrobe best and I’ve never looked back since. I love the masculine touch that injects personality into my looks and balances out more feminine pieces.
The looser silhouette also means it’s roomy enough to tuck in chunky knits without them bunching up in the arms. They work particularly well for Hong Kong weather that is never quite cold enough to justify an investment coat (plus a longer length is also more forgiving on the torso and hips). And when spring comes around, I just swap out my sweaters for t-shirts. Now that’s versatility hard to beat. Here I styled a light turtleneck underneath to break up the neckline.
My favourite bottoms to balance out boxy blazers are slim-fit jeans and pants. These faux leather pants are not stretchy leggings so they do tend to shift around the knees, but other than that they are perfectly comfy and tuck well into boots. Throw on a chunky equestrian bag, and I’m all ready to brave the cold.
P.S. No makeup, so sunnies it is.
