Grana Cashmere Boyfriend Sweater: The Knit that Hugs You Like He Does

My plight to buy less but better has led me to cashmere, the “king of natural fibres”, and Grana’s boyfriend sweater was the first cashmere piece I bought for myself several years ago.

Cashmere is one of the (practical) luxuries in life that I slowly pivoted towards as I grew older. Why would you ever want to buy a couple of polyester sweaters that shrink and stretch (in the wrong ways) when you could invest in a cashmere knit that would last you through the years? It also performs better – it’s warmer to wear and more sustainable than synthetic fibres.

Grana’s cashmere is 100% grade A cashmere sourced from Inner Mongolia and removed from goats by hand-combing rather than the commercial method of shearing. This ensures that furry friends are at ease, while also producing a clean, downy fibre free of the coarser topcoat.

While cashmere is inevitably pricier than fast fashion, it also doesn’t have to be ridiculously expensive. Having done my fair bit of research on affordable cashmere, the difference shows when you feel it by hand. This sweater is closely-knitted (i.e. more yarn and warmer), lightweight and oh-so-soft, yet still unbelievably warm. Trust me, it’s gotten me through the wind-swept Étretat cliffs.

The boyfriend fit comes oversized, which in hindsight I could have downsized. Nevertheless, its softness makes it super easy to tuck into jeans or pencil skirts for work. The rich, heathered blue goes perfectly with winter whites and your favourite pair of jeans. I’ve been wearing mine for several winters now and I’m amazed by how little piling there’s been.

Can I just say this – Grana’s Mongolian cashmere lives up to its name. This is one of my favourite sweaters ever, and it’s here to stay.
