Styling Brown Jeans is Easier than You Think
I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair of brown denim. Don’t get me wrong; I love workwear pants, wide-leg or tapered, in all shades of brown. But denim is different, and I was worried I would look like a hobo or a Gen Z wannabe.
I was so sceptical that this pair was in my shopping cart for months before I finally bought it. However, they’re currently on sale for 70% off, so now’s the perfect time to get a pair if you’re on the fence.
Everlane’s denim has been finicky, but I’ve finally gotten it right! The conclusion was to go down two sizes for Everlane’s stretch denim, like these Original Cheeky Jeans I’ve been loving ever since. Because these are high-rise and fitted through the thigh with a slim straight leg, they do feel snug on the first wear without much allowance for a food belly. However, they’re still incredibly comfortable to wear and walk around in all day, and will relax a little over time.
Dark, cool browns are typically associated with the colder months. To spruce up this outfit in the middle of spring, I opted for a plain white top where the wider shoulder pads balance out the more fitted hips. Similarly, the boxier Boston bag echoes the top’s structure and counter-balances a cropped ankle cut. I wanted to keep it simple, so I went for large hoops instead of a necklace that matched the hardware on my loafers. I think maybe a pop of orange on a short scarf (cue the sacred orange box I’ve yet to open) would add some visual interest too.
A handy tip to wearing browns is to be mindful of the undertone of your focal piece and keep it fairly consistent throughout your outfit. For example, the undertone of these Everlane jeans runs neutral and would pair better with similar shades than camel or taupe.
