It all began in a Bordeaux vineyard.

There’s an instant association of Caudalie with the grape, but what comes to mind is often the romantic notion of the juicy fruit we associate with Greek gods and their love of wine rather than the entire plant from its roots to hardy vines that survive frosty winters.

Then there’s the forever buzzword in the beauty landscape: anti-ageing. As natural collagen production declines, skin firmness and elasticity are impaired, and whatever touts “plumping’ or “smoothing” manages to catch attention–products that we flock to despite being unwilling to admit that we’re growing older by the day.

After all, there is an art to ageing gracefully, and who better than Caudalie to cross the two together?

Resveratrol-Lift

Resveratrol-Lift is Caudalie’s anti-ageing range that has been reinvented thanks to a new patent developed jointly with Harvard University. Yet unlike most collagens used in beauty that are of animal origin, the revolutionary Vegan Collagen I is plant-derived and sustainably produced with molecular farming, which ensures a GMO-free environment.

It’s an ingenious crossover of love for the skin and the environment that brings exceptional anti-ageing results by combatting the natural decline in three essential types of collagen:

  • Collagen I: boosts collagen fibre synthesis to improve elasticity

  • Collagen IV: firms and strengthens collagen production

  • Collagen XVIII: restructures collagen production

Caudalie recommends a firming routine to reap the full benefits of the Resveratrol-Lift lineup, beginning with the Instant Firming Serum, followed by the Firming Cashmere Cream or Firming Night Cream, and rounded off with the Firming Eye Gel Cream.

The good news is the entire Resveratrol-Lift range is suitable for pregnant and breastfeeding women, meaning you won’t have to change your routine halfway.

Clean, Vegan, and Sustainable Beauty

Although the beauty industry has been notorious for being wasteful, there has, thankfully, been a significant shift towards eco-responsibility.

Caudalie’s cream jars from their Resveratrol-Lift and Premier Cru lines offer refillable packaging, accounting for 85% less packing for every refill purchase. If you’re in the United States, the glass bottle pumps often containing plastic can also be recycled with Terracycle.

And while the definition of clean beauty varies, Caudalie is proudly labelled Clean + Planet Aware at Sephora, with none of the nasties–parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthalates, mineral oils, PEG, or silicones. Meaning they’re clean for your skin and clean for the planet.

Most of their products are also vegan, except those containing beeswax or honey, such as the Crushed Cabernet Scrub, Lip Conditioner and Gentle Buffing Cream.

Instant Firming Serum

Caudalie’s recommended firming routine starts with its cult product, the Instant Firming Serum.

Ultra-concentrated and now reinvented to be vegan, the serum comprises 98% ingredients of natural origin and is also non-comedogenic and suitable for sensitive skin:

  • Vine resveratrol: The patented, active anti-ageing ingredient derived from vine shoots to correct wrinkles and firm skin

  • Vegan collagen I: For a lifting effect

  • Vegan collagen booster: Made from mahogany bark sustainably harvested in Burkina Faso, firming all layers of the skin

  • Hyaluronic acids: 100% natural and produced by biotechnology, it smooths and hydrates the skin surface

Vegan Collagen I is meant to be three times more effective than your average retinol. While I’ve yet to use the serum long enough to vet that claim, I’ve been motivated to use it diligently as its light fluid consistency glides on without weighing skin down or pilling under makeup. When it comes to anti-ageing, I love the results from the right retinol product, but not the dreaded retinol scaries.

It’s packaged in a weighty frosted glass bottle that makes it a bit tricky to bring while travelling, but the pump dispenses just the right amount and twists to lock conveniently. Depending on the market you reside in, a serum refill may also be available.

If you’re wondering which serum is suitable for your skin’s needs, you might want to check out Caudalie’s other options:

Firming Eye Gel Cream

The first signs of skin ageing are often visible around the eyes, where the skin is thinner.

Thanks to a trio of peptides that activate cell renewal, the Firming Eye Gel Cream visibly corrects dark circles, reduces puffiness and smooths out wrinkles. The formula is enriched with quinoa extract and smoothing biopolymers, stimulating collagen and hyaluronic acid production. It’s a one-step formula to fight signs of fatigue for a fresher, more youthful look.

True to its name, its consistency is a gel cream that spreads quickly, which is perfect if you shy away from heavier moisturisers like I do. All Caudalie eye products are formulated to be fragrance-free and safe for the delicate eye area. They’ve also been given a makeover with a new cooling applicator. Bonus points if you keep it in the fridge–it’s a refreshing wake-me-up as you tap and massage away the puffiness.

Again, Caudalie does a couple of eye creams targeting different eye contours:
