Girl and Camera: by @hurtingbombz

It’s quite out of character for me, but I just wanted to hop on here and briefly talk about an NFT series I helped out on that just got featured on Times Square, New York!

But first, let’s backtrack a bit.

I don’t trade NFTs. As with all investments, trading NFTs require in-depth knowledge of the technology and artist behind the work, as well as the risks involved. Excuse my accounting degree, CFA books and current job… I begrudgingly admit that I’m a noob when it comes to investing.

What I do like about NFTs, however, is their ability to democratise creative content and redistribute wealth.

So when Sloika reached out to Justin (@hurtingbombz) to mint a full collection as one of the first creators on the marketplace, we were really excited to take on this project from concept to finish.

Named “Girl and Camera”, its abstract probably describes it best:

Light and colour are my favourite elements of photography, so the collection really spoke to me. Not to mention that the shoot turned out so fun and intimate!

We wanted the focus to be on the camera and glowing colours, so we opted for minimal looks in black. I’m no expert at hair and makeup (still better than my non-existent investment skills though), but I think it was good enough for the dark setting.

If I had to pick a favourite, it would probably be the 012 or 021, both with the Fujifilm Klasse S.

Justin’s collection minted on Sloika sold out quickly after its release and we’re utterly grateful for the support the NFT community has shown us. If you’re interested in purchasing one of the series from the secondary market, you can check them out on OpenSea.

Back to today.

Earlier this week on 22 June 2022, Sloika hosted an NFT display at New York Times Square, featuring 64 of its photographers’ work on the massive central billboard. It was a short feature, but nonetheless, a wild dream we never saw coming when the collection was first released. What a proud and exhilarating moment!

So, What Do You Think?

Do you already collect (or mint) NFTs? Or maybe you’re worried that the whole market is a scam and flop.

Either way, let me know in the comments below, I’d love to hear what you have in mind!
