Accor Hotels’ first MGallery property in Hong Kong is located in Tung Chung, a busy hub on Lantau Island that lies close to the airport. In fact, The Silveri is a sleek extension directly on top of Citygate – the largest outlet mall in town that has recently expanded with a new wing. The hotel entrance is discreetly tucked away within the mall, making it easily accessible by train on the Tung Chung line. However, during the mall’s closing hours from 11pm-7am, guests will have to access the hotel via the basement concierge floor.

Being close to Hong Kong’s airport has its unique perks – The Silveri offers a complimentary airport shuttle to and from the hotel every 30 minutes, running daily from 6:00am-11:30pm.

With Lantau Island known for its dramatic views, The Silveri aims to bring scenic beauty indoors and has been designed to let the surrounding peaks take the spotlight.

Guest Rooms

The Silveri’s 206 rooms and suites are designed with natural light and Lantau’s unique scenery in mind. Some accommodation options uncommon in Hong Kong are available, including private jacuzzis on outdoor terraces and even plunge pools.

Food and beverages were plentiful upon arrival, with fresh fruits and a box of cookies in bespoke hotel packaging from the traditional Hong Kong brand Kee Wah. Guests can also enjoy Nespresso coffee, tea steeped from rose petals, or chilled sparkling water from the comforts of their room.

The jacuzzi terraces look down onto the garden outside the lobby, with Tung Chung’s residential buildings looming in the distance. Tall potted plants separate the terraces, but you can easily peer into your neighbours’ and even slip through the gaps – if privacy is a concern, you might be better off with the more standard room types.

Our room’s focal point was, obviously, the jacuzzi on the terrace. Wrangling the tarp off was the easiest part – instructions provided regarding the temperature and jets were brief, which meant it took considerable effort to figure things out. I can’t say I had mastered it by the time we left. Honestly, it felt like an over-engineered gadget that was a beast to operate. Also, because we had opted for a jacuzzi suite, our terrace took on a corner wedge sandwiched by smaller rooms with larger terraces. That said, the hot tub was an absolute delight, given the chilly weather, and our extra-long dips on both days were well deserved.

The suite bathroom also comes fully fledged with a bathtub, rainshower and double sink. Ladies will love that the terrace rooms and suites are equipped with Dyson hair dryers, which make going in and out of jacuzzis and pools a breeze. Worth mentioning is that as part of Accor Hotels’ commitment to sustainability, The Silveri does not offer disposables (e.g. toothbrushes, razors) by default, but they are all available from the reception upon request. All bathroom amenities are from Malin+Goetz.

Lobby and Gardens

At The Silveri, you’ll notice a lot of green tones, from the soft, muted palette of indoor furnishings to surfaces lacquered in emerald green that echo the abundance of foliage outdoors. On a clear day, guests can head down a winding path and take advantage of The Pavillion, the hotel bar’s patio that offers unparalleled views of the sun dipping behind the hills.

There was quite a bit of wait during check-in and check-out, so have a seat and take your time absorbing the greenery.

The Enclave

The Enclave is The Silveri’s main restaurant. It sits at the entrance of a mysteriously-lit corridor, making you wonder if you’ve entered an infinity room near the reception lobby. (If you go down the length of the corridor, you’ll find yourself at the hotel bar The Pavillion.)

The Enclave’s menu is paced like an opera, with an overture (appetiser), aria (meat), harmony (steak), and finale (dessert). I’m no longer a massive fan of red meats, so in this case, I felt like the appetisers trumped our main course big time. Some of the dishes we ordered:

  • Yellowtail kingfish ceviche, with radish and fennel salad, black garlic aioli

  • Porcini and green olive tortellini, with cauliflower and cashew cheese

  • Carrara Wagyu rump steak, served with wok tossed greens and mac and cheese

  • Savarin au Rhum, with confit pineapple and chantilly cream

The Enclave becomes much more lively during the day, especially as breakfast is also served here. I must say, they had one of the best breakfast spreads I’ve seen locally. There were enough options to keep things interesting (who doesn’t love made-to-order omelettes?), but not so many options that it felt like a wasteful buffet.

Executive Lounge

Guests of executive rooms and suites can enjoy lounge privileges on the 15/F with sweeping views of the airport and hotel grounds. Refreshments and snacks are served between 11 AM and 5 PM, with evening cocktails between 5 and 7 PM.

Swimming Pool and Gym

The Silveri’s wellness area includes an outdoor swimming pool open between March and November and a gym open at all hours of the day. We didn’t mind that the pool was closed during winter, as there wasn’t much time left between enjoying the hot tub and checking out the outlet mall

Thoughts

If you’re keen to stay near the airport or go for a shopping spree during a layover in Hong Kong, The Silveri is one of the best options available. It’s incredibly new and offers enticing options for upgrading their stay.

In hindsight, there were small details in the property that left more to be desired, like guest room doors that were heavy to manoeuvre and a lack of bathroom hooks for bathrobes and wet clothes. The overall concept was ambitious but disjointed at times, almost as if the Lantau countryside was vying for attention alongside hints of traditional decor and Western influences.

But all things considered, The Silveri has found an up-and-coming location that has the potential to implode with travel opening up, and we look forward to seeing it become a well-oiled hotel.
