Orange Sleeveless Midi Dress: Jalan Petaling in Terracotta and Greens
During our time in Kuala Lumpur, we spent the better part of an afternoon exploring Jalan Petaling.
A midi dress and comfortable walking sandals are perfect for downtown explorations – the coverage prevents air-conditioned interiors from being too cold, while a concealed slit down the front keeps the look breezy (yet appropriate) for Asian culture. In addition, the removable waist tie offers a more defined silhouette than tunics and kaftans.
I’ve grown so fond of brownish, orange tones as they compliment Asian skin so well. There’s also something very rustic with the textured-weaved fabric and large buttons of this dress that beautifully echoes the shophouses and architecture on Jalan Petaling.
Did you know that Jalan Petaling is known as the Chinatown of Kuala Lumpur? You can still see street stalls and haggling everywhere, even though the street has already been renovated into a pedestrian shopping mall (its green roof is sometimes referred to as the “Green Dragon”). The muted orange and green palette of this lively and colourful neighbourhood is one of my favourites, and it’s inspired so many of my mood boards ever since.
