The Resurgence of Animal Prints: A Bold Statement for Autumn and Winter

As the leaves turn and the air crisps, fashion enthusiasts are buzzing about one of this year’s most exciting trends: the resurgence of animal prints.

We’re seeing a vibrant revival of these bold patterns this autumn and winter, ranging from classic leopard and zebra to more eclectic choices like python. Each print brings unique energy, evoking feelings of confidence, adventure, and a touch of the wild.

Unlike previous cycles, where animal prints were often relegated to the realm of statement pieces, today's trend embraces a more versatile approach. High street brands integrate these prints into everyday wear, offering everything from chic outerwear to subtle accessories that can easily elevate a simple outfit. The mood is less about glitz and more about an effortless blend of fierce and sophisticated, encouraging wearers to express their individuality with flair.

This revival also marks a shift in styling, focusing on layering and mixing prints, allowing for a more personal interpretation of this timeless trend. Whether you’re looking to make a bold statement or add a hint of the exotic to your wardrobe, animal prints are poised to dominate the fashion landscape, reminding us that the call of the wild is never far from the runway.

Here is a round-up of my favourite animal print pieces from high street brands this season, which allow a more affordable foray to incorporate new styles into your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

From left to right, top to bottom:

1 | Croc-Embossed Belt

The entry-level piece to animal prints, croc-embossed styles have never really gone out of fashion, but it only felt fair I included such a wardrobe staple in my shortlist. If you’re unsure about hopping on this trend, a thin belt gives a subtle hint of texture and shine without overpowering your outfit, and you can easily keep it monochrome in black.

2 | Mixed Animal Print Dress

With off-shoulder ruffles and a leg-lengthening thigh slit, its flowy fabric gives a wispy, romantic touch to the solid prints you often see. The light print also passes off as a neutral, and a leather biker jacket thrown onto your shoulders completes the ensemble for an effortless, undone look. It’s the perfect dress for autumn weddings and date nights.

3 | Snake Print Strappy Sandals

Snake prints are often high-contrast with intricate detailing, which makes them perfect for strappy sandals. These low-heeled leather sandals will let you walk all day (or dance all night) without worrying about taking them off.

4 | Cow Print Bag

A practical way to incorporate trends into your outfits is with bags, as they carry less visual weight but are equally high impact and provide a focal point of interest. You can’t go wrong with a large, almost-abstract black and white print, either. This leather bag has a zippered top to keep your items stashed, and the wide shoulder strap keeps things comfortable on your shoulder.

5 | Cow Print Jacket

The boldest of all the pieces I’ve shortlisted, this full leather jacket is an investment piece that will last for years. It features a gorgeous all-over chocolate brown and ivory pattern with chest pockets and decorative seams. I love the straight cut and mid-length that hits above the hips and hangs like your favourite denim jacket–but with a fun statement update for a bit of rodeo fun.

6 | Leopard Print Slingback Heels

A perennial classic, leopard prints have been done and overdone, but they will never get old. For a more realistic touch, I prefer leopard prints that lean more yellow-brown than orange and rosettes that blend out for a less ditzy look. These slingbacks tick all the boxes, with their pointed toe and kitten heel keeping them office-appropriate.

7 | Mixed Animal Print Cardigan

Button-up cardigans were all the rage last year, and it’s nice to see traces of past trends incorporated in this season’s pieces. This has a much more obscure print than the other pieces, with a dark, almost fuzzy pattern complete with contrast trims along the collar and sleeves. It’ll look great on an all-black outfit or casually draped over shoulders with light denim.

8 | Lynx Print Maxi Skirt

I find it hard to pinpoint what type of print this is; it has the smaller, single-colour spots found on cheetahs and smaller wild cats, but also added variation with clusters and diffused edges that give the impression of an abstract print when viewed from afar. In any case, its cotton composition and flared maxi length make it the perfect piece to take on vacations to warmer destinations.
